Conroe Criminal Defense Attorney - My best advice is find the next step and take it.
Conroe Criminal Defense Attorney - Brian Foley - Board Certified in Criminal Law
I am a criminal defense attorney. This means that I help people who are accused of a crime by the government. My clients are teachers, nurses, business men, students, and just about every other profession out there. In other words, my clients are regular people who have found themselves in the crosshairs of the government.
When people call me for the first time they are worried. They are afraid, anxious, and sometimes downright depressed. First I listen and find out what kind of trouble they are in. The we see how deep. Normally they feel a lot better after we have spoken. I've been practicing criminal law for my entire career after the first conversation I can normally tell where the case is headed. I can typically tell within a range of options. You can never forecast the future or predict the unpredictable. That's where I get to the advice that I give the most and it is still the best.
When we are going through difficult times the choices we have are the same as when things are going well. The circumstances change but the choices are always the same.
We know that we can't change the events of the past.
We know that we can't predict the future with certainty.
All we can ever do is take the circumstances that we find ourselves in and do our very best to find the next step and take it.
The choice isn't between a good outcome and a bad outcome. The choice is between progress towards the goal of a good outcome or no progress at all. There's no guarantee except that you will fail if you never try.
That advice is not complex but it is very difficult to follow. When you've been arrested or charged with a crime your mind races with all the possibilities and all the hopes and dreams you held for your future. If you don't know the law then the path forward isn't clear. When you don't know which direction to go then its impossible to take the next step. That is why often the first step is calling a criminal defense attorney. From there you can discuss your case with your lawyer and you'll be able to identify the next step and take it.
Focusing on the next actions step in the process can help you narrow what seems like endless negative options. The worst thing you can do is bury your head in the sand and ignore the problem. It won't get better on its own. It gets worse without purposeful action aimed at improving your position. This isn't just true for defending a criminal case. It's true in every other aspect of life from your job to your relationships. You have to identify your goal, find the next step, and take it.
